The first DVD players were called VCRs. That's the way they were marketed. When HD-DVD and Blu-Ray came out, they were called HD-DVDs and Blu-Rays. They were also marketed as HD. When Blu-Ray took off in the market, the VHS market took a dive. So, marketing always goes with what's popular. It's not some egotistical reason. It's just the way it is. You could go to a movie theater and see wall-to-wall HD-DVDs. They're marketing the fact that the movies are in HD. If they weren't marketed as HD, HD-DVDs probably wouldn't have been so successful. The movie theaters are also marketing it. Blu-Ray is the best selling format in the movie theater. HD-DVD may be the best selling format elsewhere.

I think that HD-DVD is mostly a marketing term. The HDMI television spec says 848x480, not 720p. The Blu-Ray spec is 720p. I think that HD-DVD is actually 720p. I see HD-DVDs in the stores all the time, and I've always been under the impression that it's just 720p. Hi-def and 720p are often used interchangeably. I do also want to add that I don't know why DVDs are given more status than HD-DVDs. HD-DVDs support resolution higher than DVD's 1280x720. 1280x720 is not HD. At it's best, it's 720p. Even more so, if you look at the resolution of a television, 720p is not HD. It's 720 x 576 at 30fps. 720p is the highest resolution for progressive scan TVs. I have a friend who has a problem with her IBM Laptop. I haven't seen the laptop yet, so I don't knwo what type it is, but she says it is only two or three years old. She has also informed me that she uses a P2P software to download music, so I believe that it must be an adware/spyware/malware problem. I have told her I will try to fix it tomorrow, but in order to do so, I may need to get software that I can put on a USB to run on her system, without the huge start-up time (in excess of 20 minutes). What I want to do is get the computer to run as fast as possible so I can install the anti-spyware and anti-adware, as well as software to deal with the malware that may be present.

If it isn't P2P, then I'm not sure what would be the problem. If you have a virus or a Trojan or whatever that's downloading to it, then you could contact a PC repair service, and possibly have it fixed.
