The 3D first-person shooter fighter Recoil is the first game from Zipper Interactive promising PlayStation 2 visual standards and amazingly clear gameplay. You may be familiar with the TimeSplitters series in the past which was also created by the same team that would go on to create Recoil. The team happily mixes shooting and platforming into one action packed package that can fit a vast amount of content into a small package. There are only a couple of possible problems that one can encounter while playing the game....

Now the game was a bit buggy at times when it first came out, but I think by the end of its release on February of 2003, this was fixed. Additionally, I have found that the game runs rather well on modern systems, with the PlayStation 2 version running on a modern PS3, whereas I have had to add tweaks to the Xbox 360 version of the game to maintain 60fps.

The graphics are in the standard scheme of the TimeSplitters series and are pretty decent immersion-wise. Much of the time while playing, I didn't notice having any lag. However there was a brief window where the game occasionally had trouble with the frame trigger, causing slight stutters. But, as always, the game runs smoothly in spite of these small glitches.

The sound is usually pretty good, but there is an odd occasion where a voice recording comes out of a character that you didn't select. For example, I couldn't select when you choose to switch from the first to second character and heard a voice recording of the second character without providing any feed back from the first character.
