The movie revolves around the life of a big business man Solla Marandha kadhai who resents the failure of his family business. He is a very famous business man and is a respected man by his circle. The lead actress in the movie Cheran is a commoner and she goes to Solla Marandha kadhai's house to get a job. She can not find a job in his house and he asks her to leave. She is insulted and she says that she can leave but he can leave his house and never see her again and that is what she does. He goes to her house to ask why she left and he tells her his business problem. She then tells him that she can not work for him because he is an important man. He asks her if she doesn't want to work for him, she says yes. Then he tells her that she will be asked to do a small job for him and that she will not be able to refuse. She then agrees to do the job and she goes to the house of Solla Marandha kadhai. She starts doing the job and she sleeps on the sofa of his house. He asks her to go to his house because he is alone and scared. She says that she can't go to his house because she is alone and doesn't know anyone there. Then he asks her to go to the office of his business partner to work for him. She goes to the office and she starts working there. She is fine with the work there. Then she tells the owner of the business that she can not take anymore work and she goes to sleep on the sofa of the house again. He then asks her to stay there and he asks her to work in his house again. She says that she can not work in his house again, and she tells him that she can work for him if he changes his house and makes it a family house. He then agrees to her demand.
Solla Marandha Kadhai is a 2002 Indian Tamil-language comedy-drama film directed and written by Thangar Bachan. The film stars Sathyaraj, Cheran, Pushpavanam Kuppusamy, Senthil, Mayilsamy, Anandaraj, OLA N. LAZAR, Sathyapriya, Ramji, Pandu, and Vaidehi.
The film was later dubbed in Telugu as Premisthula Raajake and released in 2005. This film was later remade in Hindi as Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. The Tamil version was remade in Kannada as Agni Paravaalu (2013).
Nominated to three awards at the 52nd Filmfare Awards South, Tamil, for Best Film, Director and Best Cinematographer. The film also received the Best Film, Director and Best Cinematographer awards at the 2002 National Film Awards. The film was also screened in the official selection of 2002 International Film Festival of India in the best regional film category.
